Our community initiative of the month is “Reflections” Creative Stage Play on Suicide Prevention by Adeshine Theatrical Koncepts.

The Company

Adeshine Theatrical Koncepts is a company that seeks to entertain and educate with all forms of theatre in an ethical way using the stage as its primary platform, aiming only to impact and impart the audience ethically with the hidden values embedded in the arts.

The Founder

Adegbindin Babatunde is a highly analytical and customer focused professional. He has over 15 years of extensive experience in providing full range of client care, business support and money management services. His experience spans across the educational sector, banking and finance, entertainment (with a focus on the stage) and more recently, the non-interest finance sphere.

He also leads the Adeshine theatrical koncepts team, where work is ongoing assiduously to bringing entertainment to all and sundry in an ethical way.

From anchoring events, to wedding emcee and production of stage plays or performances, they look out for delivery of exceptional service in all ramifications. Mr Adegbindin is presently learning and exploring spoken words with an aim to begin rendition of it from March 30th 2017.

About The Play

Their Motivation

On Sunday March 19th 2017 Dr. Orji Allwell, who worked at Mount Sinai Hospital, Surulere, Lagos was said to have told his driver to stop their vehicle. He alighted and jumped into the Lagoon. Daily Sun newspaper had reported that the doctor had tried to commit suicide four years ago.

Barely six days after Dr, Allwell’s incident, the Nigerian Police rescued two women who attempted to jump into the lagoon from Third Mainland and Carter bridges. They claimed during an interview that they attempted suicide in order to escape from those they owed.

Further Research has shown that depression affects about 48 million Nigerians but many are unaware of exactly what they are battling with and are also unwilling to get help. The flawed notion that Nigerians don’t get depressed does not help either. In 2003, an infamous survey declared Nigerians the ‘happiest people on earth, but since then we have retrograded considerably to the 103rd happiest country out of 156 countries that the survey covers. Nigeria is not even in the top five of the happiest African countries.

Their Mission

Their mission is to raise N2,000,000 to produce this play.

This negative act of suicide is gradually becoming rampant in our society and they want to contribute their quota to the voice against it.

What can they do to stop this statistic from increasing? What can you and them do to contribute your own quota to preach and encourage against suicide. Who knows? Their support and encouragement no matter how little might just save another live who is close to or thinking suicide.

They are hopeful that the messages in this play would add to the reformation process of correcting or gradually eradicating the need for people to continually engage in this act.

Their Production

They have chosen to stage a full length play that touches all aspects of the trials of life and how it progresses to suicide. “REFLECTION” a play written by Ife Salako, contains messages that address issues such as;

  • Youthful exuberance
  • Child neglect
  • Suicide

Date & Venue

Their performance has been scheduled to hold on Sunday April 30 2017 at the Agip hall of the Muson Centre Onikan Lagos.
